“White Christmas” lyrics

1. I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

2. I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten,
and children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

“White Christmas” Teaching ideas

If semitones are not your strong card, it’s time to practice on them! It’s always easier to learn a music interval based on a well-known melody.

Listen to the instrumental version and focus on the first melody, where the words “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” are matching.

Listen to it again and again and sing it at low voice, following the sound of the strings and the piano, and imagine the little “steps” of the voice.

You can help the children sing semitones up and down in the following way:

Start from a certain pitch and sing: “na-na, go up” and then “na-na, go down”, singing e.g. “E-F” and “E-Eb”.

Repeat from different pitches and go on with the song.

“White Christmas”  Song History

The song was first presented in 1942 film “Holiday Inn”sung by Bing Crosby, and soon became one of the most recorded and best-selling of all time. Berlin, the composer, received an Oscar for Best Music in an Original Song, and proved that even with 8 verses (the lyrics are no more than that) the sound can win the audience and the public.

“White Christmas” is a nostalgic reference to the snow that has covered the land at Christmas day, a common phenomenon in northern countries, and only exceptionally in Andes, Antartica, and some other regions of the southern hemisphere. Regardless of the sense that every country has for the snowfall -from just cover the ground, to more cm of depth- “White Christmas” is always a desirable day for all the people, younger or older.
