“A Ram Sam Sam” is a children’s song from Morocco and a singing game, as well. Older children can sing the “A Ram Sam Sam” as a round. It can be also sung as a name or hello song. That is by substituting the word “a rafig” in the second verse with a greeting to a friend.

The Liverpool folk group The Spinners released a version of this rhyme, and claimed to have learned the song from an Israeli singer. The words were in Aramaic, saying “Get up on your horse and gallop away”.

‘A Ram Sam Sam’ is an extremely easy 2-chord song in a major key. We suggest the key of C major, as both C and G chords are essential for beginners.

Besides that, the melody range that results when singing in the key of C is an octave from G4 to G5 (see on the Music Sheet following). This range is well suited to most children’s voice pitch. Nevertheless, you could use a capo to transpose to C#, D, Eb, or E major by placing it respectively on fret I, II, III, or IV.
