Peter Piper Printable Lyrics – PDF

“Peter Piper” is a popular nursery rhyme and an alliteration tongue-twister from England. It has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 1945. The earliest version of it is found in the 1813 book Peter Piper’s Practical Principles of Plain and Perfect Pronunciation by John Harris. The rhyme must have been known though at least half a century earlier. According to some, the figure of Peter Piper with his famous pickled peppers was probably based on a French horticulturalist of the 18th century named Pierre Poivre.

Tongue twisters are an amusing verbal play for kids. They exercise their articulacy while learning how to pronounce clearly word sequences with a complex sound. Usually one starts to recite the text slowly and repeats until he can raise the speed to a certain level. Children often organise hilarious speed contests pushing their limits further: they repeat the rhyme faster and faster until they stumble upon a word and burst into laughters!

Lyrics

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
Where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
How many pickled peppers did Peter Piper pick?

(start slowly and repeat many times until you can go as fast as you can)
