Little Miss Muffet Printable Lyrics – PDF

“Little Miss Muffet” is an English nursery rhyme first recorded in 1805 in a book titled Songs for the Nursery. It has a Roud Folk Song Index number of 20605.

Due to its similarity to other rhymes such as “Little Polly Flinders”, “Little Poll Parrot” and “Little Jack Horner”, it must have been already known prior to 1800. In support of this claim, there is an unconfirmed story that the song refers to Patience Muffet, the stepdaughter of Dr Thomas Muffet, physician and entomologist, who lived in the 17th century.

As is the case with public domain culture, there are a few slightly different versions in the lyrics; as for the music you can hear it sung in a handful of melodic variants or even being recited as a poem. Anyhow, today the song remains popular with kids not only for singing but also for role playing and dramatisation; they have so much fun to play the roles of Miss Muffet and the spider!

Lyrics

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her,
And frightened Miss Muffet away.
