Guitar Chords and Tabs in A

‘When The Saints Go Marching In’ is an easy 5-chord song in a major key. We suggest the key of A major, as all the chords A, E7, A7, D and Dm are essential for beginners.

The melody range that results when singing in the key of A is a fifth from A4 to E5 (see on the Music Sheet in A following). This range is well suited to most children’s voice pitch. Nevertheless, you could use a capo to transpose to Bb, B, C or C# major by placing it respectively on fret I, II, III, or IV.

Easy Guitar Sheet Music with Chords, Notes and Tablature in A

This is a simple transcription for guitar with bass and middle voice plus recommended fingering. As much as the song is great for singing with kids, it is also an ideal piece for guitar beginners. We suggest this version with accompaniment for those who would like a more sophisticated approach.

You can practice the notes on the 1st and 2nd position and up to the 4th fret, while using all four fingers of the left hand. The upper melody line is played on the first three strings (E, B, G) and the bass line is all on the open bass strings. Don’t forget the three sharps (F, C and G).

This version is excellent for right hand mobility and control, as one can practice all the basic techniques: apoyando and tirando with i-m, while the thumb moves on all the bass strings. We play the melody apoyando so that it will stand out clearly – it is pointed with the accent articulation sign. We play tirando (m-i-m) the accompanying middle voice for a more subtle sound. Through this voice combination a beautiful exercise is derived for the right hand, playing apoyando – tirando in turn.
