“Frog Went a-Courting” is a funny English folk song about a frog courting a mouse (Missie Mouse). The mouse is willing to marry the frog, but she must ask permission of Uncle Rat. The song first appears in Scottish language in Wedderburn’s Complaynt of Scotland of 1549 under the name “The Frog cam to the Myl dur”.
In the 20th century the song has been featured in many films and TV shows leading to an increase of its popularity. As is the case with public domain culture, there are a few different versions to be found. Since it’s a storytelling song, it is ideal for role-playing and dramatisation with younger kids; therefore it can serve as a pleasant teaching material in classroom.

Lyrics
Froggy went a courtin’ and he did ride, uh huh – uh huh
Froggy went a courtin’ and he did ride, hey hey – hey hey
Froggy went a courtin’ and he did ride
with candy and flowers by his side. uh huh, hey hey, oh yea
He rode up to Miss Mousie’s door, uh huh – uh huh
He rode up to Miss Mousie’s door, hey hey – hey hey
He rode up to Miss Mousie’s door
where he had often been before. uh huh, hey hey, oh yea
Said Miss Mousie, are you within, uh huh – uh huh
Said Miss Mousie, are you within, hey hey – hey hey
Said Miss Mousie, are you within? Miss Mousie said
I sit and spin. uh huh, hey hey, oh yea
Took Miss Mousie on his knee, uh huh – uh huh
Took Miss Mousie on his knee, hey hey – hey hey
Took Miss Mousie on his knee, Said Miss Mousie
will you marry me? uh huh, hey hey, oh yea
Without my Uncle Rat’s consent, uh huh – uh huh
Without my Uncle Rat’s consent, hey hey – hey hey
Without my Uncle Rat’s consent
I wouldn’t marry the President. uh huh, hey hey, oh yea
Uncle Rat laughed, and he shook his sides, uh huh – uh huh
Uncle Rat laughed, and he shook his sides, hey hey – hey hey
Uncle Rat laughed, and he shook his sides
to think his niece would be a bride. uh huh, hey hey, oh yea
Where shall this fancy wedding be, uh huh – uh huh
Where shall this fancy wedding be, hey hey – hey hey
Where shall this fancy wedding be?
Way down yonder in the hollow tree. uh huh, hey hey, oh yea
They married then they had a child, uh huh – uh huh
They married then they had a child, hey hey – hey hey
They married then they had a child.
He grew up and left after while. uh huh, hey hey, oh yea
Then he went a courtin’ and he did ride, uh huh – uh huh
That Froggy went a courtin’ and he did ride, hey hey – hey hey
That Froggy went a courtin’ and he did ride
looking for his own Miss Mousie bride! uh huh, hey hey, oh yea;
uh huh, hey hey, oh yea; uh huh, hey hey, oh yea
