“Little Bunny Foo Foo” is a children’s poem about a bunny rabbit harassing a population of field mice by scooping them up and bopping them on their heads. The Good Fairy doesn’t approve this behaviour, so she threatens the bunny that she’ll turn him into a “goon” if he keeps on with that attitude. She gives him three chances, but – guess what – the bunny fails to behave and finally she turns him into a goon!
The poem is passed on orally as chlidlore from one generation to another, leading to a handful of different variations existing through time. The tune is borrowed from the kid’s song “Alouette” and is similar to “Down by the Station” and the “Itsy Bitsy Spider”. It has been recorded by many artists and has appeared in TV shows and cartoons. One of the latest recordings of the song comes from The Wiggles.
