After its initial release by Tino Rossi in 1946, the song has been covered by many artists throughout the years, including Céline Dion (both solo and a duet with Alvin and the Chipmunks), Josh Groban and The Smurfs. Other versions only available on an album include those by Dalida (1960), Paul Mauriat (1967), Nana Mouskouri (1972), Boney M. (1981), Daniela Simmons (2006), Nicole (1994) and Josh Groban in his 2007 album Noël.
