“Down by the Banks of the Hanky Panky” is a popular child lore and clap game very popular across the U.S.A.; kids often play it in playgrounds and schoolyards. The structure is simple: kids sit in a circle touching each other’s hands in a row – the right hand of the one resting on the left hand of the kid next. They start singing the song gently slapping the hand of the kid sitting next, until they reach the word “kerlop”. The kid whose hand is slapped on this last word is out. The game starts over again until only one is left.

Down by the banks of the Hanky Panky
Where the bullfrogs jump from bank to banky
With an eeps, ipes, opes, opps
One fell in and went kerplops.
