Ya Viene la Vieja Printable Lyrics – PDF

Carol, Spain.

“Ya Viene la Vieja” is a very popular carol and its origin is believed to be either Extremadura or Andalucia in Spain.

This song describes the character of an old woman who carries the usual “aguinaldo“, a Christmas bonus gift or a quantity of money to give to another person, often around Christmas holidays – a custom that has disappeared over the years.

Apparently, the old woman regrets having put too much money and takes out a little. Later in the song the Magi take the place of the old woman, and the gifts that they bring to Baby Jesus are numbered and described.

Lyrics

Ya viene la vieja
con el aguinaldo
le parece mucho
le viene quitando.

Pampanitos verdes
hojas de limón
la Virgen María
Madre del Señor.

Ya vienen los Reyes
por los arenales
ya le traen al Niño
muy ricos pañales.

Pampanitos verdes
hojas de limón
la Virgen María
Madre del Señor.

Ya vienen los Reyes
por aquel camino
ya le traen al Niño
sopitas con vino.

Pampanitos verdes
hojas de limón
la Virgen María
Madre del Señor.
