“Found a Peanut” is a traditional kids’ song that’s very popular in the English-speaking world, from United Kingdom to the U.S.A., Australia and Canada. A version of the song is also popular in Israel. The lyrics are in repetitive form, which makes them easy to memorise, hence it’s a kindergarten favourite. The cheerful song borrows the melody from “Oh my Darling Clementine”.
The origins of this song are uncertain; It was mentioned in a 1945 issue of the Florida Flambeau as an “old song” from “high school days.” A few years later, it appeared in the 1949 film A Letter to Three Wives by Joseph L. Mankiewicz.
