“Skidamarink” is a popular preschool song. In Canada, the song was popularized by the band Sharon, Lois & Bram, who first released it on their debut album “One Elephant, Deux Elephants” and then sang it on The Elephant Show. The song had been discovered for the band by Lois Lilienstein, who had asked her cousin’s daughter if she knew any good songs; the girl sang ‘Skinnamarink’, which she had heard at a camp she had just been to. None of the band members knew the origins of the song.
“Skidamarink” began appearing on many song collections for children’s shows in the 1980s. One version appeared on the Australian show Bananas in Pyjamas. Thanks to its lovely lyrics and melody, the tune has also appeared as a Valentine Day song on various kids songs websites.

Guitar Chords and Tabs
‘Skidamarink’ is an easy 5-chord song in a major key. We suggest the key of G major, as all three chords G, C, D, A7 and D7 are essential for beginners.
The melody range that results when singing in the key of G is the octave B4-B5 (see on the Music Sheet following). This range is well suited to most children’s voice pitch. Nevertheless, you could use a capo to transpose to G#, A, Bb or B major by placing it respectively on fret I, II, III, or IV.

Easy Guitar Sheet Music with Chords, Notes and Tablature
This is a simple transcription for guitar with bass and middle voice plus recommended fingering. As much as the song is great for singing with kids, it is also an ideal piece for guitar beginners. We suggest this version with accompaniment for those who would like a more sophisticated approach.
Regarding the left hand, you will play the notes on the first, second, fourth and fifth position and up to the 7th fret. Two or three fingers must be held together at the same time in order to perform the accurate duration of the notes. Keep in mind the F Sharp throughout the piece!
This version is excellent for right hand mobility and control. You can practice apoyando, tirando and a few dyads with i-m, while the thumb moves on all the bass strings. We use apoyando for the melody so that it will stand out clearly – it is pointed out with the accent articulation sign. We play the middle voice dyads a soft tirando for a more subtle sound. To sum up, you can combine all the basic fingerpicking techniques.
