One of the first things that happens when kids go to school is that they make friends, so one of the reasons we sing is to confirm and strengthen the friendships that are created between children.
Even if the parent or teacher sees that this is not happening, they find ways to facilitate communication, alleviate problematic relationships, and emphasize the terms and conditions under which a friendship is established and maintained – and that is easier through a song.
The value of friendship is something we teach children, and anyone who takes on the role of teacher knows that it is a skill to which not everyone responds with the same ease. That said, a song is always a good start – or a good repetition – to emphasize how important friends are in our lives.
