Jingle Bells

Jingle Bells | Free Christmas Carols & Songs

Carol, U.S.A.

“Jingle Bells” is among the most popular kids Christmas songs around the world. It was written by James Lord Pierpont, its original title was “One Horse Open Sleigh” and it was published under it in the autumn of 1857.

This rhyme was originally not related to Christmas, and it was intended for the Thanksgiving season. However, it became associated with Christmas music and the holiday season in general decades after it was first performed on Washington Street in Boston in 1857.

Lyrics

1. Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

2. A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah

3*. A day or two ago,
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow,
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
He laughed as there I sprawling lie,
But quickly drove away.

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

4. Now the ground is white
Go it while you’re young,
Take the girls tonight
and sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bobtailed bay
Two forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you’ll take the lead.

Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh

This is beautiful! I am a school librarian, and I would love to use this to create a compilation video of various teachers, administrators, and students in our school singing Jingle Bells for the holidays on our school website. Can I use the mp3 download for this purpose? I would include credit to your site in the video. Thanks!

    1. Singing Bell

Sure, Brittney! Thanks for asking and thank you for any credit in advance.
