“The Merry-Go-Round” is a popular children’s song of English origin and singing game or action song as well. The story narrates how the merry-go-round broke and the kids fell down because they were too many. Since the playground is the natural habitat of younger kids, it’s no wonder why there are a lot of versions of a song that tells everyday stories with the merry-go-round, the seesaw or the swing.
The tune is similar to “Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush”. The rhyme is often played as a game, where the kids sing and skip holding hands in a circle, to end hilariously collapsing (perhaps sometimes on to each other) at the last line. This type of play resembles the old singing game “Ring a Ring o’ Roses (Ring Around the Rosie)”.
