- “Mary, Did You Know?” is a Christmas song with lyrics written by Mark Lowry in 1984, and music composed by Buddy Greene in 1991.
- It was originally recorded by Michael English in 1991. The song has since been covered by numerous artists, like Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd (1996), Pentatonix (2014), Jordan Smith (2015), Zara Larsson (2017), and Dolly Parton (2020) – just to name a few.
- The song focuses on the human side of Mary as the mother of Jesus; the singer poses all these rhetoric questions to Mary only to deliver a moving message to all of us on the blessing of God.
- Some Baptist and Catholic religious circles have criticised the lyrics claiming that they are disrespectful. Yet, the audiences have embraced the song completely, to make it one of the modern Christmas classics.
