“Yankee Doodle” was written by an unknown author in 1755 and was originally sung by British military officers as a way of mocking American colonists during the French and Indian War.
Despite its origins, Yankee Doodle has since become well-known amongst kids around the world. The simple tune, fun lyrics, and upbeat melody make it a popular choice for singing and a great way to introduce children to American history.
It is also the official state song of Connecticut.
