“The Muffin Man” Teaching idea and activities
There is a game proposed by Matilda Anne Mackarness in “The Young Lady’s Book”, published in 1888.
One child starts singing the first stanza to the next one , asking if he/she knows the Muffin Man.
The next one replies with the second stanza, and both of them continue by singing “Then two of us know the muffin man, the muffin man…”
Then they address to the third player by the same way, and after his/her reply they sing: “Then three of us know the muffin man, the muffin man…”
The same question and answer is repeated until all the children have been addressed, and finally they sing “We all know the Muffin Man …”.
