“Feliz Navidad” is a song written by the Puerto-Rican singer José Feliciano in 1970. Despite the fact that it was principally a Spanish-language song, it’s simple lyrics both in Spanish (first verse) and in English (second verse) made it really successful around the world. What contributes to its appeal is the simple melodic line which is based on repetition and which doesn’t take great vocal skills to perform, so it’s easy for everyone to sing.
In an interview, Feliciano revealed that he added English lyrics into the song to boost its airplay time on English radio stations.
