Lucy Locket is a charming nursery rhyme that combines playful imagery with a touch of historical context.

Nursery rhyme, England (U.K), Europe
“Lucy Locket” is a traditional English nursery rhyme, first recorded in the 19th century. The rhyme tells of Lucy Locket losing her pocket and Kitty Fisher finding it, but discovering there was nothing inside except a ribbon.
The “pocket” mentioned is not the kind sewn into clothing today but rather a separate tie-on pouch that women in the 17th and 18th centuries wore under their skirts, making it possible to misplace or lose one.
The name Kitty Fisher may allude to a well-known courtesan of the 18th century who appeared in many songs and satires of the time, while Lucy Locket was also a stock character in popular culture.
The rhyme is usually sung to a tune closely related to Yankee Doodle, which helped it endure as part of children’s play and oral tradition.

Lucy Locket lost her pocket,
Kitty Fisher found it;
Not a penny was there in it,
Only ribbon round it.
