12 Easy 4 Chord Guitar Songs for Kids to Play and Enjoy

If you’re excited about playing the guitar, you probably already know you that through this musical instrument you can cover a vast majority of the music genres! Even if you’re at an early stage, you can play numerous songs and tunes and have fun while practicing! Having our younger guitar enthusiasts who might have already practiced their 3-chord guitar songs in mind, we have curated this collection with the 12 most popular kids’ songs and nursery rhymes with 4 chords, which will keep them engaged and fascinated.

The songs on this page have a 4-chord harmonic structure, where the main I – IV – V sequence – which is of course substantial – is enhanced with one more chord, like V7, II, VI or IV7. While the dominant seventh chord (V7) is considered to be common in modern harmony, the presence of the supertonic (II) is needed to create a common cadence (II – V – I) other than the typical IV – V – I. The VI chord or submediant and the supertonic, which are minor chords in any major key, create a more powerful and emotional progression and are present in harmonic progressions like:
I – VI – II6 – V,  I – VI – IV – V,  I – VI – II – V – I,  I – VI – V – I

All of the songs are in guitar friendly keys, like C, G, E, A and D. In many cases we give you more than one key option to choose from. For each and every song you will also see its guitar sheet music, as in many cases chord playing is followed by / taught in parallel with fingerpicking.
