If you’re like us, then you (or your students) have probably been spending an unhealthy amount of time playing the indie game Undertale.
One of the most well-known and popular songs in the game is Megalovania, and we’ve been thinking of creating a post about how to play it on marimbas. It’s a great song to play, and it’s really not that difficult once you know the basics.

Megalovania Arrangement Details
The percussion arrangement available here includes the following instruments:
- Glockenspiel
- Xylophone
- Vibraphone
- Marimba (2 players)
- Drum set
It is quite a challenging arrangement, mostly for advanced students or fairly experienced musicians. The piece is rather fast with the drummer and the second marimba player supporting the ensemble in rhythm. The marimba starts by introducing the main theme. The drums and the rest of the melodic instruments follow in an endless “chase” after each other. The piece is at D minor key and the measure is 4/4.
If you want to appeal to marimba students or musicians, the second arrangement, the one for two marimbas and four players, is what you need. The musicians who will play the upper octaves on each instrument should have a skill in speed. On the other hand, the bass lines do require a great deal of rhythmic stability, but do not have as many changes of position as the melody.
